It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive instincts activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the right-hander was on her way.

"A chance to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun that way, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

Once she was removed her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing competing nations at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.
