Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
